Wood-burning stoves are heating appliances that use logs of wood or wood-derived biomass as fuel. This appliance usually consists of a solid chamber made of cast iron or steel with an adjustable air control and fire brick base. The wood burning stoves were   first patented in the year 1557  about two centuries  before the onset of industrial revolution that made iron the most common and inexpensive metal. The stove is connected to suitable chimney through ventilating pipes. This chimney is filled with hot gases once the stove is ignited. The flue gases must always remain at higher temperature than the temperature of the air outside it so that they rise up the chimney and are expelled out. Thermo electrical generators require no electric power or battery. They are autonomous and the speed of the fan is regulated by the heat produced by the stove.

Positioning of these types of wood burning stove fans is important, as they need cooler air in their backside to perform its functions perfectly. Considering this fact, such fans for log burners are sometimes placed at the rear side of the stove. On important aspect that one should be aware of is that there is a maximum limit up to which temperature can reach in wood-burning stoves. There will be one bimetallic strip provided at the underside of the stove. If the stove gets extremely hot, this strip will lift itself and bring back the increased temperature to the allowable limits. This will help to reduce the temperature of the wind spread by the fan. But this system can protect the device up to certain limits only. Take care to note that if the stove reaches 345 degree Celsius then it has to be removed to avoid permanent damage to the stove.
